![]() Then the theatre turned to colour and all was sent spinning back in time and the busy backstage frolics of the cast at the Opera House were bought to life. From the black and white opening scene I knew it was going to be visually splendid and from the atmosphere created knew I was in for something dramatic. i got goosebumps the 1st time i heard her sing.Having not seen the musical before, and only being familiar with some of the well know songs I had no preconceptions, but was eager to see the film being a lover of all things musical. besides, christine is young and emmy fits her. ALW chose gerry for this because he wants a rocker type voice for the phantom. she can sing but she can't sing that high. for minnie driver they had to use another voice coz she's not an opera singer. ![]() Oh yeah, did you guys know that Anne Hathaway was orginially supposed to play the role of Christine? But she had to pull out because of conflicting schedules. It's a beautiful scene - and beautiful music! I really love the scene with the song Overture where the Phantom pulls Cristine along onto the boat, and she looks entranced. I know they're two completely different movies, but I liked Moulin Rouge a lot better. It could have been so good, but some parts were dry and boring. I expected Phantom of the Opera to be better somehow. I like Gerald a lot better in this movie naturally. I watched 300 before Phantom of the Opera, and I was so shocked that it was the same person.
